Meet the male Taylor Swift fans from Swiftie who travelled 4,000 miles to be here to boy, 7, who’s been singing her songs all his life
There’s no doubt that Taylor Swift is known for having a predominantly female fanbase. But as the star’s astronomical success continues to reach new heights, is it really the case that all Swifties are women?
Ahead of Taylor’s second London performance in the Eras Tour, MyLondon caught up with the male Swifties who weren’t just there for their girlfriends, daughters or other female counterparts, outside Wembley Stadium.
‘I’ve been listening to Taylor Swift since back when she was a country icon’
Ryan Grover, 25 travelled all the way from Florida – well over 4,000 miles away – to see Taylor with his friend Jacob Shifflett, 24, who lives in the UK.
The pair have loved the star since her debut album Taylor Swift. Jacob said: “I’ve been listening to Taylor Swift since back when she was a country icon. As I grew up, she grew up as well so it’s been pretty cool.”
As devoted Swifties, they were among the first fans to snap up tickets to the UK leg of The Eras Tour through the pre-sale.
Ryan said he was hoping for ‘Florida’ as a surprise song, a homage to his roots, while Shifflett was rooting for ‘Fortnight’, a collaboration with rapper Post Malone from Taylor’s newest album, The Tortured Poets Department.
‘He’s been singing Taylor Swift since he was a baby’
MyLondon also found seven-year-old Jack Singh outside Wembley, excitedly handing out friendship bracelets to fellow Swifties for his first Taylor concert.
His mum, Maddison Kaur, said: “He’s been singing Taylor Swift since he was a baby. Including shouting ‘Je suis calme’ in a shop when he was little before he could speak proper English.” This is a reference to Taylor and Brendon Urie’s music video for ‘ME!’, which has since become lore amongst Swifties.
As for his dream surprise song, Jack knew exactly what he wanted: “‘Is It Over Now?’ mashed up with ‘Out of the Woods’. On piano.” His other favourites are ‘Cruel Summer’ and ‘Willow’.
