Mean Girls fans will no doubt want to secure their spot at this ongoing West End production before it comes to an end on February 16, 2025.

Mean Girls has finally hit London’s West End. Based on the 2004 comedy film of the same name, this musical adaptation previously racked up 12 Tony Award nominations on Broadway, and now it is fighting to take London by storm.

The first batch of reviews have now arrived, with some of them calling the show a “memorable” addition to the West End. However, there are some criticisms.

Theatre and Tonic gave the show five stars and said: “Mean Girls is a wonderful musical which brings a fresh and enjoyable spin on the original book. The cast delivers standout performances throughout with flawless vocals and hilarious character portrayals. With its host of memorable songs and scenes, it is a pink and glittering addition to the West End.

The Guardian agreed, mostly. In its three-star review, they wrote: “It’s often fun, and is well cast and impressively acted, but just needs an extra shot of dazzle and acidity.”

London Theatre dropped a hugely positive four-star review, as well, saying: “But there are few shows in town with the spectacular joke rate of Mean Girls, nor with characters this vivid or a story that, 20 years on, has such a perceptive take on how teenagers – and the rest of us – could treat one another better.”

The Independent was only partially happy with the stage show, however. Their two-star review said: “It isn’t a bad musical, really, but there isn’t a single moment that justifies its musical existence.”
