Luton Airport has been named one of Europe’s best at the Airport Council International European 2024 awards. Heathrow Airport was also highly commended in the over 40 million passengers category.
The airport was its category winner (10-25 million passengers) and was the only UK airport to win at the event which took place yesterday in Istanbul.
Luton airport was up against Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport, in Spain, and Brussels Airport, in Belgium, who were also shortlisted for the category.

The airport celebrated on their X account, formerly known as Twitter, by saying: “We’re absolutely thrilled to have been named European Airport of the Year (10-25 million passengers) at the prestigious 2024 ACI EUROPE Best Airport Awards. Well done team!”
Judges were particularly impressed with the infrastructure improvements at the airport including new shops, lounges, and an electrified express rail service.
They also said that the airports adaptability had helped them achieve Level 4 of the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme, with a net-zero target by 2040.
