London is set for a heatwave next week, with temperatures rising up to 30C on Sunday, July 21, according to the latest forecast. It follows a mixed summer so far, with days of sunshine matched evenly by showers and cold spells.
But the most recent Global Forecast System (GFS) predicts temperatures will climb steadily throughout the next two weeks. Climes are expected to reach their peak on Sunday, July 21, with highs ranging between 27C and 30C in the afternoon and early evening.
It is thought temperatures will gradually rise from tomorrow, reaching the mid-20s by Wednesday. Britons have even been warned by Exacta weather on Facebook to prepare for “some sort of potential heat dome scenario”, The Metro reports.

Despite the likelihood of a mini-heatwave, long range forecasts are notoriously difficult to predict with 100 per cent accuracy and the Met Office has been cautious in its analysis. A Met Office spokesman said: “On balance, it may be rather changeable at first, with periods of unsettled and cloudy, wet weather mixed with spells of dry and fine weather.
“The west is likely to see the wettest conditions, while the east will tend to be drier. By mid month there is a signal for more settled conditions to develop, so more in the way of dry weather, although still with a risk of some rain / showers at times.
“Temperatures close to average at first, but with a greater chance of warmer than average conditions later in the period.”

There are 10 flood alerts in place in England, with one on the outskirts of west London, for Lower River Colne and Frays River, off the M25, near Slough.
The Met added: “River levels remain high on the Lower River Colne and Frays River today, (Monday, July 8) due to recent heavy rainfall. Flooding may continue to affect locations near the Colne, Frays, Wraysbury and Poyle Channel, with low lying land and roads expected to be most affected, particularly around Longford.
“Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water.”
