While trying to incorporate her mother’s beloved instrument, the viola, into baby names a mum-to-be has come up with monikers that are so bad people think it sounds like a serial killer

Asking for opinions on your child’s name before they’re born is always risky as there will always be someone who doesn’t like your choice. And while naming one baby can be incredibly stressful what if you’re pregnant with twins? Do you opt for individual monikers, names that sound sweet together, or go all out and give them matching names?

A woman has revealed how she’s been trying to talk her aunt out of giving her twins names that she believes will cause them “issues” later on in life. Taking to social media to share the situation, she wrote: “My aunt is pregnant with twins. She doesn’t know if they’re identical or fraternal, and has chosen not to know the genders until she gives birth.

“But if she has a girl and a boy, she wants to name the boy ‘Violance’ to match Violet — pronounced like ‘Violence’ but modified to match the viola, which my grandma (her mother) played.”

‘My son’s classmate has Twilight-inspired name so bad I’ve been told to call Childline

Concerned that having a name like ‘Violance’ could cause problems for the child later on in life, she added that it was just the tip of the awful name iceberg. She went on: “It gets worse; if she has twin daughters, she wants to name them ‘Alyja’ (pronounced Elijah) and ‘Avanue’ (pronounced Avenue, as in, a street).

“I didn’t ask about twin boys; I was too busy trying to gently dissuade her. I don’t know what to do. She doesn’t seem to grasp that naming a little boy ‘Violance’ could lead to some issues later in life, as she insists that he could just go by Lance if it’s such a big deal, but she’ll always love Violance. Help…?”

Posted on Reddit people rushed to share their thoughts on the unusual name choices. One person replied: “Violet is fine but Violence is dumb. Not sure who came up with the expectation that twins would get similar or rhyming names but it is stupid. Just give your kids names that don’t get them and you bullied.”

Another user replied: “She wants to name a son Violance?! Does she want to raise a serial killer?” And someone else wrote: “Little Violance will have kids kept away from him at school and on the playground, and all job applications will go into file 13. Maybe he can become a mercenary or an operative?”
