London has been issued a yellow Heat Health Alert for this week. The alert system to warn healthcare professionals and protect people from upcoming adverse weather

This yellow warning starts on Thursday, July 18, at 5pm until Saturday, July 20, at 11pm. The Heat Health Alert is a warning about the impacts that heat will probably have on healthcare services used by the vulnerable population, along with the increased risk of mortality amongst the same people.

The alert has been issued as London is about to experience a mini-heatwave over the next couple of days, with temperatures eventually reaching over 30C on Friday, July 19.

The heat alert starts at 5pm on Thursday where temperatures are set to get up to 27C according to the Met Office. Then on Friday, July 19, temperatures will rise to 32C – the hottest day this year. On Saturday, July 20, temperatures are forecast to get up to 28C before the heat alert ends at 11pm.

The Heat Health Alert differs from a weather warning in that it is aimed at health and social care professionals. The warning of the heat here will not likely affect most people, apart from those who are vulnerable. This includes the elderly with multiple health conditions and people as such.

There will be a yellow Heat Health Alert for the East Midlands, East of England and South East too during the same period. The rest of England will have Green warnings. The Heat Health Alerts are only for England.

From Sunday, July 21, temperatures drop to a much more manageable 23C with the hot weather set to continue, just without any dangers to life. The heat and dry conditions mark a big turn in weather from the flood warnings that had come prior.
