Apple could be working on a new version of its more wallet-friendly iPhone SE and rumours suggest it will get one of its biggest overhauls ever.

If you want a new iPhone but don’t fancy paying premium prices then good news could be on its way. Rumours are rife that Apple is working on a new version of its popular SE model and it could offer one of the biggest upgrades to this wallet-friendly call maker in years.

According to a new report coming out of China, the next generation of SE could get a design that takes some inspiration from the upcoming iPhone 16 flagship – which is due to launch this September.

In fact, leaks that have appeared on Chinese website Weibo claim that the latest and greatest SE will feature a back cover that uses the same design process as its more expensive sibling.

It’s also thought that the rebooted SE will ditch the chunky chin and forehead – along with the Touch ID fingerprint scanner – found on the current model and replace it with an all-screen appearance instead. That also means it could finally switch to the more Face ID unlocking technology.

A faster processor is also likely along with an improved single-lens rear camera for better snaps to pop in those family albums.

The iPhone SE is long overdue a refresh with the 3rd gen version – now available in Apple Stores – first launching all the way back in 2022. That device currently starts from under £500 and it seems almost certain that the new budget blower will also be far cheaper than the soon-to-be-revealed iPhone 16.

Although a new 4th gen iPhone SE will be welcomed by budget-conscious Brits there might be a bit of wait to own one. Unlike the latest iPhone 16 which should be here in time for the autumn, it’s thought the SE won’t hit stores until the spring of 2025.

If you don’t fancy a new smartphone but want new features, don’t forget that iOS 18 will be coming soon and bring a swathe of updates to older devices.

Upgrades include new customisation tools, improved Photos app and even a better way to store all your passwords.

Mirror Online is predicting that iOS 18 will arrive in the middle of September but there’s a very simple trick to try all the latest features now.
