Jemaine Clement, Taika Waititi, and Iain Morris have created the live-action series based on Terry Gilliam’s cult classic movie
Friends icon Lisa Kudrow fronts a new TV series based on cult classic Time Bandits. Available to stream today, the live-action comedy marks the first-ever TV adaptation of the 1981 film directed and co-written by Monty Python’s Terry Gilliam.
The 10-part series is billed as ‘an unpredictable journey through time and space’ with a ragtag group of thieves and their newest recruit: an 11-year-old history buff named Kevin (Kal-El Tuck). Together they set out on a thrilling quest to save the boy’s parents – and the world.
Time Bandits has been created by Flight of the Conchords star Jemaine Clement, Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi and The Inbetweeners’ creator Iain Morris. The show’s official synopsis reads: “Guided by Lisa Kudrow, the eccentric crew of bandits embark on epic adventures while evil forces threaten their conquests and life as they know it.

“As the group is transported through time and space, the gang stumbles upon fascinating worlds of the distant past while seeking out treasure, depending on Kevin to shed light on each situation. The Time Bandits witness the creation of Stonehenge, see the Trojan Horse in action, escape dinosaurs in the prehistoric age, wreak havoc during medieval times, experience the Ice Age, ancient civilisations and the Harlem Renaissance, and much more along the way.”
The live-action series boasts a stacked ensemble cast led by Kudrow as Penelope, alongside Unseeing Evil’s Kal-El Tuck as Kevin. Also starring is Conversations with Friends’ Tadhg Murphy, You Don’t Know Me’s Roger Jean Nsengiyumva, Knocked Up’s Charlyne Yi and Peep Show’s Matt King, with guest appearances by Clement and Waititi.
Clement, Waititi and Morris executive produce, write and direct select episodes, with Clement and Morris serving as co-showrunners.
