CCTV footage of a vape causing a fire in a car has been released, with many saying that warnings should be standard for them, regarding the temperature they should be stored at

Vaping has risen dramatically in recent years as it’s allegedly a better alternative to smoking cigarettes.

An urgent warning has been issued, however, regarding vapes being left in cars, after CCTV footage has been shared showing the devastation they can cause in a short amount of time.

The frightening footage, which was posted on YouTube and recirculated on Reddit, shows a vehicle in a car park that suddenly seems to set alight. The reason? According to the YouTube video’s caption: “Per the owner of the vehicle, they believe the battery in their vape pen that was left in the centre console got so hot it exploded and caught the interior of the vehicle on fire.”

According to Ske Vape: “Leaving your vape device in a hot car, even for a short time, can cause serious problems. The heat can damage the vape’s battery and other components, posing safety risks and shortening its lifespan.”

They also shared that: “Leaving a vape in a hot car poses significant risks, primarily because of overheating to its lithium-ion batteries. These batteries contain a flammable electrolyte liquid, and exposure to high temperatures can lead to severe consequences.”

On Reddit, where just a 30-second clip was shared from the whole seven-minute video, someone shared: “Those lithium batteries are unreliable.”

On YouTube, commenters referred to it as a “crazy video”, with one writing: “Those flames were reaching for the camera!”

Someone commented: “Maybe don’t leave that stuff in direct sunlight. Wonder if those pens have directions that warn you about this.”

Another fumed: “Yes you can’t leave vape pens or battery jumpers in the car if it’s 80+ outside, insurance probably won’t cover this because the owner left it in the direct sunlight which I’m pretty sure every vape pen should say not to do.”
