A heart-wrenching rescue operation saved a chained-up dog with “no eyes” from the roadside, after the abandoned pup was discovered by charity Hope for Paws.
The Cane Corso breed was discovered lying at the side of a main road, prompting a passerby to call Hope for Paws, who swiftly came to the dog’s aid. Upon arrival, they found a terrified dog weighed down by a chain around her neck and struggling with her vision.
Instead of opting for a potentially frightening metal crate, the rescuers used spare netting to safely secure the dog, who was then taken to the Hope for Paws base in California, US. Once there, the staff fed and bathed the Cane Corso, affectionately named Delilah.
A subsequent vet visit revealed that both of Delilah’s eyes were infected, with a foxtail lodged in one of them. After treating the infections with antibiotics and removing the foxtail, Delilah was able to open her eyes and began to recover well.
Delilah has since been placed in a foster home, and a viral post on the Hope for Paws Instagram page announced she is now looking for her forever home.
The charity’s post read: “Dog with NO EYES was abandoned on the side of the road! This is the text I received and now the rescue video of Delilah is ready. Please help us find Delilah a loving forever home by sharing her story with someone who would love to adopt the sweetest.”
One person penned: “So horrified to continually hear about people abandoning their pets, disabled or not, it is just evil. So glad there are people out there with hearts to rescue these poor animals.”
