Heatwaves can be insufferable if you have to stay indoors, but these five hacks should help you keep cool even when it’s warm outside – and one might not be what you expect

A TikTok user has revealed some of the best ways to keep cool, even in hot weather.

With summer now in full swing, many of us are hoping for another heatwave to really make the most of the warmer months. However, being stuck inside working when it’s hot out can be a real pain.

But these clever tricks might just make being indoors that little bit more bearable. Whether you’re trying to cool yourself down or find ways to reduce the temperature in your home, there are several strategies to survive the worst of the summer weather.

Resooma, a service that helps renters in finding, renting, and setting up bills for their next home, shared some suggestions on their TikTok channel and people were delighted with the tips.

One user described one of the hacks as “brilliant” and others have also benefitted from the heat-defying suggestions. The video included five ideas, the first of which recommended placing a bowl of ice in front of a fan. The narrator of the clip added this would “distribute cold air around the room.”

The second tip suggested putting a damp tea towel in the freezer for about half an hour. The frozen fabric would “instantly” cool you down when placed on your skin, providing temporary relief from the heat.

For those who need a quicker way to beat the heat, running your forearms under coldr water seems to do the trick. The narrator added: “A quick way to bring down your body temperature is to run your forearms under cold water.”

Other hacks included putting an ice pack on your feet as a way of regulating your body temperature. The narrator said this body part plays a “vital role” in keeping the body cool during heatwaves.

The final hack may seem like it goes against common sense, but Resooma suggests keeping your windows closed when the heat gets too much. Demonstrating the tip, the video was overlaid with the words: “Shut out the heat”.

The narrator advised: “Keep the heat out by shutting windows and closing curtains, just remember to open them at night time to let the cooler air in.” Since then, TikTok users have added their own hacks to the list, with one writing: “Cold showers! I had one every two hours. The cooling sensation lasts about an hour and then feels comfortable for another.”
