Despite the invitation to spend the summer at Balmoral with the King, Zara is understood to have applied to compete at the Wellington International Horse Trials

Firm favourites Zara and Mike Tindall are expected to turn down a royal invitation to spend the summer with King Charles. Royal sources say that the mother-of-three and former Olympian Zara has applied to compete at the Wellington International Horse Trials.

The trials are set to take place at the same time as the Royal Family’s yearly meeting at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. Most members are invited to the festivities with the King in the summer.

But sadly Zara and Mike might not make it this year as the daughter of Princess Anne is believed to spending time on her other love, horses. The event takes place between on August 24 – 26 over the bank holiday, which is when the Royal Family plan their holiday in the highlands.

According to the Express, the Royal Family are planning their annual Sunday service 535 miles away at Crathie Kirk church near Balmoral in Scotland on the same weekend. But the source said that the King is so keen to have Mike, Zara and their children at the service that he’s considering moving it forward a week to accommodate them.

They said: “Charles really wants Zara and the family to join him on the last Sunday in August for the bank holiday service, but understands that her horse competitions are extremely important to her.

“Charles is hoping that they [the Tindalls] will be able to come up the week earlier to muck in with the rest of the family so that everyone can enjoy the picnics and walks planned on the estate.

“Mia, Lena and Lucas get on amazingly well with George, Charlotte and Louis. There will be lots of children there this year so they are planning a mixture of adult and junior events to keep everyone entertained.”
