After the ‘Man in Finance’ song went viral on TikTok, many women are all realising they’re after the same type of man. So next time you’re on a hunt for a man who works in finance, it’s pretty likely he will be called one of these five names thanks to a recent study

We all know the viral song about looking for a man who works in finance – but if you’re serious about looking for one, he’s most likely going to be called one of these five names.

Not only does he need to be 6’5, with a trust fund and blue eyes according to the viral and catchy TikTok song by Megan Boni, who goes by the name online as Girl On Couch, but he will most likely be called David. It was found that the most common name in the finance industry is David thanks to a recent workplace study.

David topped the list appearing 8.55% of the time in the study complied by employee share scheme specialist Vestd. They looked at the 25 most common male and female names in the UK and used data from over a million LinkedIn profiles in the finance sector. The name David means “beloved” in Hebrew, and is also the most popular name in manufacturing, education, charity, business, local authority, electronics, IT, healthcare and logistics sectors.

As well as David, other popular finance names include James, John, Andrew and Paul, and for women, they are Sarah, Samantha, Emma, Susan and Laura. So why are ‘finance bros’ so endearing? Dating expert Anastasiya Pochotna, from dating app Flirtini, told Metro there may be one specific reason why. She said: “Finance bros are having a renaissance today because of the economy that isn’t so rosy right now. Behind the romanticism and image of a handsome guy with blue eyes like Leonardo DiCaprio, there is actually a feeling of stability and financial security.

“In times of ever-increasing living costs, financial issues become a priority for people, and it makes sense that those people, who can provide the cash and financial stability, are becoming more attractive on the dating scene.” It was also found that before the viral song came out, in a survey of 2000 people, 52% of women were more likely to match with potential suitors who showed wealth and 46% of women said they were looking for someone who earned more than they do. So next time you’re on the hunt for a man in finance, make sure to check what his name is.
