A dentist has gone viral on social media after sharing a video showing a root canal treatment in graphic detail – and it’s left many people squirming at the thought of it

Many people have a fear of the dentist, often due to unpleasant experiences they’ve either personally endured or heard about from others.

Just the sound of dental tools can trigger anxiety in patients, not to mention the anticipation of pain during treatments once they’re seated in the dreaded chair. One such treatment that is particularly feared is the root canal – a procedure used to repair a damaged tooth.

This process involves extracting the tooth’s damaged inner section, sanitising the interior, and then filling it to shield it from further harm. However, while knowledge usually alleviates anxiety for many, one dentist caused quite a stir after posting a video of the procedure online.

In the viral video, which has amassed over 24,000 likes, Dr Kadish explained: “Let’s say you have a tooth that’s broken in half, decayed and is really sore. What you can do is you can remove it, but then you’ll be missing a tooth.”

To preserve a tooth, the dentist must “clean up the decay and get the healthy tooth structure.” He added: “If the cavity is very deep, it’s going to reach the pulp. And then in order to save it, you need to do a root canal which is what’s going to happen here.

“During a root canal, you need to clean out the bacteria inside the canal using files and a disinfectant solution. That little machine you see over there is called an apex locator.”

If the cavity is very deep, it’s going to reach the pulp. And then in order to save it, you need to do a root canal which is what’s going to happen here.

“It tells us where the bottom of the root is, so we know how far down to clean and fill. Once they’re done filling the canals. They’re also going to put a post down there so they can build up the tooth.

“They use some cement to hold the post in, and then they can add the filling material on top of that. Now the dentist is going to clean up the tooth and get ready for a crown. And now the tooth has been saved.”

However, the clip, which showed the procedure in graphic detail, left many TikTok users squirming. One wrote: “Can’t imagine the pain.” Another added: “They did this to me once and it hurt like hell,” while a third commented: “I’ve had like 3 root canals lmao.”
