Season two of the hit Game of Thrones prequel has come to its epic conclusion, with fans left eager for its next instalment

House of the Dragon fans have been left ‘mesmerised’ after the show’s ‘incredible’ season two finale. With all episodes available now on Sky Atlantic, the hit fantasy drama is based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire and Blood and set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, during a period when the Targaryen dynasty ruled over the Seven Kingdoms.

The latest and final episode – titled ‘The Queen Who Never Was’ – finds our characters preparing for war, as alliances have been set and armies have been raised. Released three years after Thrones’ final season, House of the Dragon has proved another big hit for HBO, winning the Golden Globe for Best Television Series – Drama after its first season and boasting an 89 percent Rotten Tomatoes score.

Both seasons of House of the Dragon are available on-demand with Sky Atlantic. Fans can watch the show with a raft of money-saving deals including the Sky Sports, Sky Stream, Sky TV and Netflix bundle that’s reduced to £43 a month in Sky’s new ‘lowest price’ deal.

House of the Dragon season two sees the return of stars Emma D’Arcy and Matt Smith as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Prince Daemon Targaryen respectively. Slow Horses star Olivia Cooke reprises her role as Alicent Hightower alongside Notting Hill’s Rhys Ifans as her father Otto Hightowern and Tom Glynn-Carney as King Aegon Targaryen.

Season two also saw the introduction of The Bay star Tom Taylor as Lord Cregan Stark, the Lord of Winterfell and Warden of the North. Days before the season two premiere, HBO announced House of the Dragon has been renewed for a third season, with the network’s head of drama Francesca Orsi hailing its latest run as ‘spectacular’.

Speaking on the official House of the Dragon podcast, showrunner Ryan Condal has promised fans the next chapter will ‘start with a bang’. He said: “If you think about the first season as the calm before the storm, before the storm broke and the dragons danced, that famous line that George wrote in Fire and Blood.

“Season two is really, if not a Cold War, it was the march to war, and we’re now literally seeing that at the end of the season. Whereas now the fuses have been lit, and season three is going to start with a bang.”

“I mean, there is no turning back now, which I hope is clear at the end of this. There is no more dithering and looking for peace. It is an all-out fight.”
