There are plenty of stunning seaside villages along Britain’s coastline, but only one can name TV favourites Richard and Judy amongst their residents. Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan, the presenting duo who launched ITV’s This Morning, have long been fixtures on British telly – but they also spend plenty of time in their idyllic home nestled in the picturesque Cornish village of Polperro.
Now at 69 and 76, Richard and Judy boast an impressive tenure in broadcasting, including their hit Channel 4 show, Richard and Judy, which aired from 2001 to 2008. Apart from their joint ventures, they’ve also flourished in solo pursuits; Judy has penned the Sunday Times bestseller ‘Eloise’, while Richard has become a familiar face on ITV’s Good Morning Britain.
Their romance blossomed back in 1982 at Granada TV, leading to a family with two kids, Jack and Chloe, plus Richard playing stepdad to Judy’s twins from her previous marriage. When not in the spotlight, they savour the peace of Polperro, Cornwall, with Richard often spotted taking scenic cliff path walks to the village, reports Wales Online.
Judy shared their love for the locale with Cornwall Live, saying: “We live at Talland Bay, near Polperro, that is where we call home. We are here most of the time and Richard likes to walk over the cliff path to Polperro every day. It is a great walk and you get to meet and know local people who have mostly accepted us as their own now.”
Polperro, a picturesque fishing village on Cornwall’s south coast, entices visitors with its beautiful harbour scenes and hillsides speckled with quaint cottages.
The village is celebrated for its smuggling past in the 18th and 19th centuries and stands as an essential spot on the South West Coast Path. Tourists can embark on a scenic coastal walk to Looe from Polperro, taking in the serene beauty of Talland Bay.
This bay boasts two secluded coves that form the shores of Talland Sands and Rotterdam Beach. At low tide, the beaches are perfect for rock pooling and offer clear waters for swimming.
Polperro’s housing market features a mix of Grade II-listed traditional cottages, terraced, detached and semi-detached houses, as well as flats. There’s good news for anyone looking to live in Polperro as according to Rightmove data, in the last twelve months, property prices averaged at ÂŁ373,333. This marked a 41 per cent decline in prices compared with the previous 12 months.
