Tesco shoppers have been warned to ‘not eat’ a popular cheese as it’s been laced with a bacteria which can cause meningitis and diarrhoea. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) sent out an alert about the product posing a health risk that can cause a ‘severe’ risk to health.

The watchdog issued the recall for Castelli UK Ltd’s Le Superbe Raclette – which is only sold in Tesco – as the bad batch is plagued with listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria that can cause high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea.

The recall is said to be a “precautionary measure”, with the affected product having a 150g pack size and a best before date of May 12, 2025.

Shoppers who have purchased the affected product have been slapped with a “do not eat” warning. Instead, they are being asked to return it to store where a full refund will be provided with no receipt necessary.

The risk statement says: “The possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes in the above product.

“Symptoms caused by this organism can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea. However, in rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications, such as meningitis.

“Some people are more vulnerable to Listeria infections, including those over 65 years of age, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies less than one month old and people with weakened immune systems.”
