Royal equestrian Zara Tindall is celebrating her 44th birthday today (May 15), and while she has accomplished a great deal, fans are particularly enamoured with her relationship with husband Mike Tindall, describing the couple as a “breath of fresh air”.
Since tying the knot with the former England rugby union player in 2011, Zara and Mike have been a hit with the public. The pair, who share two daughters and a son, were recently seen “flirting” and labelled “a great time” after Mike interviewed Zara on Magic Millions’ YouTube page. Fans all picked up on the same thing after watching the interview.
Zara, a member of the Royal Family and granddaughter of the late Queen Elizabeth II, spoke about her decade-long involvement with Magic Millions – Australia’s leading thoroughbred sales company – and her love for horses. Brits were thrilled when Zara, a World Championships and European Championships winner, secured an Olympic silver medal on home soil at the London games.
Zara, an avid polo player, discussed her upbringing around horses and the significant influence of her parents – Princess Anne and Mark Phillips. Zara revealed: “Just generally I remember being around horses when I was young and ponies and we were really lucky and my mother and father were riding so it was very much their career at the time and we would kind of do a lot of stuff at home with them, lots of quality time on the horses, and in the yard.”
Zara revealed that she spent much of her childhood outdoors with her horses. “I think if we weren’t in the house we were up in the yard, looking after them, learning about them, really lucky,” she recalled.
The Royal also fondly reminisced about having a Shetland pony called Smokey, which was shared by the whole family. Speaking to her husband Mike, she added: “I just remember always loving it, the partnership, the freedom you get from it, and obviously the thrill you get from it, going fast, love jumping and being able to do it on your own. I loved looking after them and caring for animals. It was just fun.”
However, Zara admitted that riding became more challenging after having children. “It’s just completely different,” she said, describing it as “hard work”. Nevertheless, she feels blessed to have been able to introduce her children to the world of horses.
While fans were delighted to hear about Zara’s passion for horses, they also couldn’t help but notice the strong bond between her and Mike. One fan commented: “Grounded, down to earth, best friends and lovers. So glad they found each other.”
Another said: “Loved this interview, you can see they are such a great team how they bounce off each other! ,”. “What a breath of fresh air and delightfully presented listening to such a great athlete and her beloved no1 supporter! ,” another fan commented. “Such a fun couple,” another added.
One fan gushed: “These two are a joy. She is a fabulous representative for the UK….and Mike….what can I say….flipping fab. What a partnership!” Another remarked: “This was fantastic, the flow, chemistry, banter, love and respect between Mike and Zara was lovely to watch.
“Really enjoyed this, two down to earth people who love sport and family life,” praised another viewer. Someone else chimed in with: “What a lovely interview. It was funny, kind and informative. Enjoyed all of it. The friendly laughter between you both was a pleasure to see.”
