The top 10 yellow box junctions where drivers were fined the most by Transport for London (TfL) has been published by the transport authority. The transport authority has said the fines are in place to deter motorists from breaking the rules of the road.
Two of the top three spots on the list are taken up by South London borough Wandsworth, with West London’s Ealing also claiming two spots in the top 10.
The locations refer to roads owned and maintained by TfL, as opposed to local streets run by local authorities. See the full list of top fining locations below.
Penalty charge notices are a standard £160 fee, which is reduced by 50 per cent if paid by the individual within 14 days. The transport authority has said that all revenue from such charges is reinvested to cover the cost of enforcement and road safety schemes.
A TfL spokesperson told MyLondon: “Yellow box junctions play a vital role in keeping traffic in London moving and enforcement of the rules helps to reduce delays, protect access for emergency services, and keep people travelling safe.
“We enforce the rules at key locations along the red route based on safety and reliability risk.”
They added: “Penalty Charge Notices (PCN) deter drivers from breaking the rules and our aim is to achieve compliance road regulations. We do not simply issue PCNs to raise revenue, we enforce the rules to help keep the road safe and traffic moving.”
