A man who became friendly with his neighbours after buying his new home was alarmed by a message from one of them in which she revealed she knew intimate details about his life

It’s one thing developing and maintaining an amicable relationship with your neighbours for the purpose of peace, community and even security, but it’s an entirely different matter when you start to feel like they are keeping a track on your daily movements.

One young man, who has just bought his new dream home, has become friendly with a few of his neighbours and described them as “super nice”. They swapped numbers in case they needed to get in touch with each other for any emergencies or other issues that arose, so he wasn’t surprised when one woman messaged him about a change of plan with a homeowners meeting.

He shared their exchange anonymously on Reddit where he also explained the woman was around the same age as him – late twenties, early thirties: “HOA meeting got moved to tonight if you want to walk over together,” she wrote, along with a smiling emoji. He replied to thank her for the heads up but said he couldn’t make it as he had a date. He asked her if she could pass on anything of importance to him afterwards.

But her reply took him by complete surprise when she said: “Oh ok no worries. You’ve been having a lot of dates lately with different people lol.” Taken aback, he asked what she meant by that and her reply stunned him even more.

“I’ve seen a lot of women coming back to your house lately, and the other day I was walking Milo and heard you having sex because your bedroom window was open,” she wrote. To which he replied: “Haha I didn’t know you were keeping tabs on my dating life but I’ll be sure to make sure my windows are closed if I have sex tonight! Have a great day!”

The woman seemed slightly put out by his response and signed off with: “I’m not keeping tabs on you I just happened to notice that you had a few different girls come back to your place. I’m sorry I said anything. Have a good day.”

Revealing that he thought her message was “a bit passive aggressive” he said they had always been “super friendly” with each other but he now felt “really awkward”.

Other users of the site were quick to point out something the man had apparently not picked up on. “She’s dropping not so subtle hints,” said one as another explained: “She’s sending you smileys and asking to go to a HOA together which is a terrible event for anyone. She wants in bro.”

A third bluntly stated: “Do not f*** your neighbors. Or coworkers. I mean do if you have no choice but you have choices. Don’t go.” Another person suggested: “And if you do, close the window..”

However others revealed the close situation has worked out for them and if he was looking for a proper relationship it might not be a bad idea. “I’m engaged to one of my coworkers lol. She was the leasing manager, I was the service manager. Knew each other for 7 years before we started dating,” they shared. Another wrote: “My coworker said the same thing and he has now put a ring on it! :)”
