Police have seized more than £250,000 worth of stolen rare Pokemon cards – pledging to return them to distraught fans.
Tameside Police posted to Facebook last week – May 14 – to reveal that during a ‘warrant’ visit in Hyde, Greater Manchester, they found some unusually ‘high-value’ items.

Pictures show rare Pokémon cards stacked in boxes with two even including price tags of £560 and £420. In the post, they confirmed there were thousands of the collectables racking up an estimated value of more than £250,000.

One man has been arrested and the local force, part of Greater Manchester Police, has pledged to try to return the stolen goods to Pokémon fan owners. They ended the post by wittily repeating the show’s catchphrase ‘gotta catch ’em all’.

The post, which has more than 700 likes and almost 500 comments, said: “An interesting warrant in Hyde yesterday morning, supported by your Neighbourhood policing teams. Seizure of thousands of stolen, high-value Pokémon cards with an estimated worth of more than £250,000. Attempts will now be made to return the cards to the original owners. One male has been arrested. Gotta catch ’em all.”

One user commented: “Whoever did the last line – how long have you wanted to say that?!” A second said: “Being a poor mother who spent a small fortune on these for my addicted son, I sincerely hope they get back to the right person. Good work.”

A third added: “How people pay daft money for these cards is beyond me but each to their own.”
