A Surrey man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving following a serious crash on a busy motorway in Kent. Police and paramedics were called to the M20 near Maidstone at 9.40pm on Tuesday, May 20 following reports of a multi-vehicle collision.
Three vehicles were involved in the crash on the westbound carriageway between junctions 8 and 7. A full road closure was then put in place along this stretch of the motorway, leading to heavy traffic building on approach and the implementation of a diversion route.
Officers from Kent Police were joined by paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance service (SECAmb) who treated three patients at the scene. The air ambulance attended and one of the patients was taken to a local hospital for further care.
A spokesperson for SECAmb said: “SECAmb were called to reports of a multi-vehicle RTC on the M20 near junction 8. Crews assessed and treated three patients at the scene before being joined by The Air Ambulance Charity, Kent Surrey Sussex.
“One patient was then taken via road to William Harvey Hospital for further medical treatment and the remaining two patients were discharged from our care at the scene.” The injuries of the patient taken to hospital are not believed to be life-threatening.
Police subsequently arrested a 44-year-old man on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving without insurance. He was then taken into custody.
