Two men from Islington have been charged with attempted murder after a man was stabbed during an alleged ‘knife fight’ last week. Kayto Kusi-Ghent, of Birnam Road, and Robert Lynch, of Watkinson Road are accused of attacking the man in his 20s in the early hours of Friday, May 17.
The pair, aged 23 and 55, respectively, were arrested five days after police were called to Watkinson Road, in Holloway, at 3.45am following reports of a group carrying weapons. The victim was discovered soon after with stab wounds to his chest and back.
He remains in hospital in a stable condition, according to a statement issued by the Metropolitan Police.
Kusi-Ghent and Lynch are due to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court today (Friday, May 23). The latter has also been charged with being in possession of a knife blade in a public place.
A large cordon was set up around Watkinson Road and the adjacent Pipers Close following the early morning incident, with forensics teams remaining on scene until the evening. Anyone with information relevant to the ongoing investigation is urged to contact police on 101, quoting 1023/17MAY.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Two men have been charged in connection with a stabbing in Islington on Saturday, 17 May. Kayto Kusi-Ghent, 23 (21.10.01), of Birnam Road, Islington and Robert Lynch, 55 (07.02.70), of Watkinson Road, Islington were charged on Friday, 23 May with attempted murder.
“Lynch was also charged with being in possession of a knife blade in a public place. They are due to appear in custody at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 23 May.
“Police were called to Watkinson Road, N7 at 03:45hrs on Saturday, 17 May following reports of a group of men carrying knives. On arrival, a man in his 20s was located with stab wounds to his chest and back.
“He was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Enquiries continue.”
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 3.54am on Saturday, May 17 to reports of an incident in Watkinson Road, Islington. We sent resources including ambulance crews, a paramedic in a response car, an incident response officer and London’s air ambulance.
“We treated a man at the scene before taking him to a London major trauma centre.”
