Apple has confirmed a major date in its yearly launch calendar – WWDC 2024 will take place this June.

If you own an iPhone then you definitely need to pop June 10 in your diary. That’s the date Apple will reveal its new iOS operating system which is sure to bring a swathe of new features and useful updates to its popular range of smartphones. iOS 17 is Apple’s current iPhone software which means the next big upgrade being shown to the world in the summer will almost certainly be called iOS 18.

Although WWDC is a Developers Conference – which is used by many to help create the next batch of software enhancements – it’s also a big event for consumers as it’s a chance to see what bonus extras will arrive on their devices later in the year.

There’s no official on what Apple has planned but we can expect the usual refresh to the ways things look along with more features and enhancements to security.

Along with updates to the phone, Apple always uses WWDC to showcase changes to its Macs, iPads, the Apple Watch and Apple TV.

“We’re so excited to connect with developers from around the world for an extraordinary at WWDC24,” said Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. “WWDC is all about sharing new ideas and providing our amazing developers with innovative tools and resources to help them make something even more wonderful.”

It’s also not just about software with Apple often throwing in a few hardware surprises along the way as well. For example, last year they revealed the new Vision Pro headset for the first time. This Spatial Computer mixes real and virtual words together to create a more immersive experience for those wearing it. We’ve also seen MacBooks uncovered at WWDC in past as well.

Of course, Apple always keeps its news close to its chest so it’s unlikely we’ll find out full details until later in June.

If you are a developer and want to attend WWDC 2024 you can apply via the Apple Developer site or log in using the dedicated app.

Apple says it is also proud to support the next generation of developers through the Swift Student Challenge, one of many Apple programs that seek to uplift the next generation of developers.

On March 28, this year’s applicants will be notified of their status, and winners will be eligible to apply for the in-person experience at Apple Park. Fifty Distinguished Winners, who are recognised for outstanding submissions, will be invited to Cupertino for a three-day experience.
