Londoners can expect a stormy spell before summer makes a comeback, with thunderstorms forecast for both Wednesday, June 5, and Saturday, June 7. BBC Weather predicts thundery showers and a moderate breeze tomorrow between 2pm and 8pm, with temperatures peaking at 17C.
Another thunderstorm is expected around 11am on Saturday, although conditions will vary across the capital. Before that, light showers and a gentle breeze are forecast for today (Tuesday, June 4), with highs of 18C.
Rain is likely to continue on and off until Sunday, June 8, after which a warm and settled period is expected. According to Netweather, London could reach scorching highs of 30-31C on Saturday, June 14, with temperatures already at 25C by 9am and remaining high into the evening.
The Met Office has also warned of a wet and unsettled week across the UK, with showers expected in most areas and the potential for heavy rain and thunderstorms, especially in the south. A weather front moving in Friday night may bring 20-30mm of rain, particularly affecting southern regions on Saturday.
Temperatures are set to remain cooler than average until early next week, but will begin to rise by Tuesday and are expected to exceed seasonal norms by midweek. This could signal the start of a warmer, more settled pattern heading into mid-June.
Met Office spokesperson Andrea Bishop said: “The weather will be changeable for the rest of this week, with everyone likely to see some showers at some point. (…) a bit cooler, a bit breezy at times, and a bit wet.”
She added: “We are keeping an eye on a new front which looks like it will move in on Friday night, bringing rain which could be heavy, and possibly thundery at times on Saturday.”
