DIY snack boxes have gone viral on TikTok, providing sensory experiences for toddlers during long-haul flights while introducing fun ways to eat healthy snacks
‘Mumfluencers’ have told how often-dreaded long-haul flights with toddlers can be made easier with the addition of in-flight ‘snackleboxes’.
With the term coined by mumfluencers twomomsandthebabes, the clever ‘snack hack’, said to help calm kids on flights, is a DIY snack box made from a fishing tackle or other plastic containers filled with a variety of foods that aim to keep kids entertained.
Gaining traction recently for providing a great sensory experience for little ones, the boxes are also a fun way of introducing healthy food.
Zara Bartoszewicz, Social Media Executive and mum of one at holiday provider Ocean Florida said: “Bringing lots of entertainment is one of the best ways to make sure any long family journey runs smoothly. Magazines, colouring books, toys (ideally ones that won’t be easily lost/don’t make a mess) and a pack of cards or other fun board games are all amazing options.”

She continued: “Another option for a toy that can keep the kids entertained and fed, is the TikTok viral ‘snackle box ’ Essentially, this involves filling a cheap fishing tackle box (or other box with multiple compartments, with your children’s favourite snacks). Not only is it a sensory toy that can help young children learn how to sort items, but it’s a great way to make sure the kids are getting the nutrients they need.”
The box, as seen on @twomomsandthebabes, an account with 945k followers, shows a child eating a variety of brightly coloured fruit and snacks during a flight, with many viewers hailing it as an ‘amazing idea’.
Some asked for further content on the snacks she put inside, while others questioned how the food stays fresh: “How do you keep cut apples from turning brown,” said one, while another asked how you would get it through security. Someone else, clearly impressed, commented: “My 45-year-old self might need a snacklebox.”
