A killer paedophile who murdered his stepmother and raped a teenage girl has died in prison. Mohammed Fethaullah, 64, previously of Wandsworth, died at HMP High Down, in Surrey, on May 13 this year, while serving a life sentence for the kidnap and murder of Yasmin Akhtar, 35, who was in the middle of a costly divorce with Fethaullah’s father at the time.

Fethaullah hired three men to kidnap Ms Akhtar from her property in Redhill, Surrey, and take her to a shop on Old Kent Road, where she was strangled with parcel tape when she refused to drop a £250,000 divorce claim.

Ms Akhtar’s body was then wrapped in a carpet before petrol was poured over her face and she was set ablaze in Larkhall Park, Clapham.

The Old Bailey heard during Fethaullah’s murder trial that Ms Akhtar had been asking her then-66-year-old husband for the large divorce settlement – which was said to have threatened Fethaullah’s inheritance prospects.

The judge said Fethaullah wanted to ‘silence her forever’. Fethaullah, along with Paul Bush, Rupert Alleyne and David Quarry, were sentenced to life imprisonment in 2003.

Much later in Fethaullah’s sentence it emerged he had raped a teenage girl in 1999, several years before Ms Akhtar’s murder.

Fethaullah was convicted of rape in 2019 after a two-year investigation, and he was sentenced to a further 16 years in prison. At the time of his latest sentencing, a Met Police detective described Fethaullah as a ‘dangerous predatory individual’.

The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman said the investigation into Fethaullah’s death is ‘in progress’.
