Londoners may have been feeling particularly snuffly today (Tuesday, June 10) and there’s a reason why. With summer fast-approaching, flowers and trees are blossoming and grass pollen hayfever season is upon us.

The weather service predicts pollen levels will remain at ‘Very High’ levels – tomorrow (Wednesday, June 11) as well as Friday (June 13) and Saturday (June 14). The forecast comes as the capital enters the peak period for grass pollen, which affects the majority of Britain’s estimated 10 million hay fever sufferers.

Grass pollen, which is responsible for most hay fever cases, typically reaches its peak during late spring and early summer. Unlike tree pollen that dominated earlier in the year during March and April, grass pollen affects a much larger proportion of the population and can cause more severe symptoms.

But at least the sun will be out again. The Met Office is predicting 29C in London for Friday. The full weather forecast, according to The Met Office is below.

  • Wednesday: A warm, dry day overall. Any inland fog early in the morning should lift quickly, though it may linger longer near the coast. Hazy sunshine by evening. Maximum temperature: 26°C. Very High pollen count.
