Man, 30, dies after Hammersmith double shooting as police make murder arrest

A 30-year-old man has died following a double shooting in Hammersmith on Wednesday evening (June 11). Emergency services were called to Claxton Grove shortly before 11.20pm to reports of the attack.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed one man suffered serious injuries, before he died in hospital yesterday (Thursday, June 12). His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

A second man, also in his 30s, was treated for minor injuries in hospital but has since been discharged. The alleged 28-year-old gunman who was initially arrested on suspicion of attempted murder has now been re-arrested on suspicion of murder.

He remains in police custody.

Detective Chief Superintendent Christina Jessah, from the Central West Command Unit, said: “Our deepest sympathy is with the victim’s family who are being supported by specialist officers at this time. This is a shocking crime to occur in any community, and we thank locals for their patience. They will see an increased police presence in the area as we conduct our enquires.”

A video from the scene shows a police cordon in place with two police cars and an ambulance. Emergency services have issued an appeal for information for witnesses or anyone information that could help the murder probe.
