This imminent knighthood for the famed Manchester United hero and English footballing legend comes after longstanding public pressure. Having just turned 50 earlier in May, Beckham remains a constant presence in the limelight, with many anticipating his knighthood.
The honour recognises Sir David Beckham’s contributions to sport and charity work. Beckham’s remarkable charitable work and his close rapport with King Charles haven’t gone unnoticed. Their pleasant interaction was observed at the Chelsea Flower Show last month where King Charles appeared to tease about the upcoming accolade, saying: “You got it, didn’t you?” To which Beckham responded warmly: “It was incredible, thank you. It was very kind.”
Regarded as one of football’s elite, David Beckham first captured hearts at Manchester United, before captaining England and playing for esteemed clubs like Real Madrid, AC Milan, and LA Galaxy. Even after hanging up his boots, his popularity endures, further boosted by his dignified move to queue and pay homage to Queen Elizabeth.
In a noteworthy step taken last year, David took on the role of an ambassador for Her Majesty’s charity, The King’s Foundation. Upon his appointment, he shared his enthusiasm: “I’m excited to be working with The King’s Foundation and to have the opportunity to help raise awareness of the charity’s work. I’ve always been eager to support young people in broadening their horizons, and I’m particularly looking forward to backing the Foundation’s education initiatives and its efforts to provide young people with greater access to nature.”
He also spoke about how his personal interests align with those of the Foundation: “Having developed a love for the countryside I’m also on a personal mission to learn more about rural skills which is so central to the Foundation’s work. It was inspiring to hear from The King about the work of His Majesty’s Foundation during my recent visit to Highgrove Gardens – and compare beekeeping tips.”
Moreover, Beckham has engaged with Chelsea Pensioners amid the COVID-19 lockdowns and continues to dedicate himself as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, a post he’s held for two decades.
Following the thrilling announcement, David Beckham’s wife Victoria, aged 51, lavished him with accolades. On Instagram, Victoria posted a heartfelt tribute to David, accompanied by a photo of her giving him a tender kiss on the cheek.
In her caption, she expressed: “You’ve always been my knight in shining armour, but now it’s official. Sir @davidbeckham! ! ! What an honour, I couldn’t be prouder of you. Your dedication to the things that matter most – your country, your work, your passion, and most of all, your family – has never wavered.”
