A man was “punched in the face several times” during an alleged racial assault near Wembley on Monday (June 16). Four officers were assaulted while responding to the incident.
A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of four counts of assault against an emergency worker, assault by beating, racially aggravated public order, possession of a controlled drug and being drunk and disorderly in a public place.
Police rushed to North Circular Road, near Wembley, at around 2pm on Monday to reports of a racially aggravated assault. They found that the victim had been racially and verbally assaulted before he was punched several times in the face.
While responding to the incident, four officers were assaulted and three of these sustained minor injuries. Another officer was racially abused. Two of the police officers were taken to hospital for medical treatment.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Met Police are currently investigating a racially aggravated assault, which was reported at 14:05hrs on Monday, 16 June to North Circular Road, NW10.
“The victim was racially, verbally assaulted before he was punched several times in the face.
“While responding to this incident, four officers were assaulted with three of these officers sustaining minor injuries.
“Another officer was racially abused. Two of these officers were taken to hospital for medical treatment.
“A 37-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of four counts of assault against an emergency worker, assault by beating, racially aggravated public order, possession of a controlled drug and being drunk and disorderly in a public place.”
