There is one way that Prince William and Prince Harry could ‘bolster the monarchy in its most fragile moment’ an expert has said, claiming it could turn everything around for the Royal Family

The Royal Family is facing one of its most challenging periods to date, with King Charles and the Princess of Wales both currently being treated for cancer and unable to perform their usual schedules of public-facing duties.

For many years, Charles has championed the idea of a ‘slimmed down monarchy’ – something that even his sister, Princess Anne, has expressed skepticism over.

The slimming down of working royals – coupled with Prince Harry and Meghan’s royal exit back in 2020 – means that the monarchy currently finds itself shorthanded, with insiders perceiving it as being on the verge of crisis. However, one expert believes that there is one thing that Harry and Prince William could do, to bring the institution back from the brink.

Clive Irving, author of The Last Queen: Elizabeth II’s 70-year Battle to Save the House of Windsor, argues that if the two warring brothers could put aside their differences after years of what is understood to be an essentially estranged relationship, they could help firm up the monarchy itself, during a time when the institution finds itself in its “most fragile moment”.

The expert explains that the perspective often brought by bad news could “help forge a fraternal reconciliation that, as well as harmonizing family relations, could bolster the monarchy as its most fragile modern moment.”

Harry has already “reached out” to his brother after reportedly finding out the news about his sister-in-law’s diagnosis just before it was publicly announced. In her video message to the nation, Kate appealed for “time, space, and privacy” as she puts all of her focus into her recovery, and her three young children.

Writing for the Daily Beast, Irving explained that this need for privacy during this challenging time creates a conflict with the public nature of the Royal Family’s position.

“There is now a palpable tension between the very understandable desire of the Royal Family for the King and Kate to enjoy privacy on the terms they have themselves set, and the incessant build-up of pressure and speculation in the palpitating celebrity media universe for the smallest scrap of information or grainy glimpse of an elusive royal.”

The expert added, “William is going to need all the help he can get. This might, therefore, be a good moment to end the often petty and fundamentally pitiful breach between the brothers and their wives. A reconciliation of the Sussexes and the Waleses would be a truly historic healing moment and a refreshing sign, at last, of maturity and, not the least, of a required durability in the House of Windsor.”
