Urgent ‘do not eat’ warning issued for popular sauce sold in UK supermarkets

A chilli sauce that is sold in some UK supermarkets has been urgently recalled after it was found to contain undeclared peanuts.

Laoganma Black Bean Chilli Sauce is stocked in Sainsbury’s where it features in the world foods aisle. The affect product comes in a jar size of 280g, has the batch code 18232 and best before date March 8, 2026.

product could pose a risk to anyone who is allergic to peanuts. Peanut allergy symptoms can include skin reactions, nausea and vomiting, and in severe cases, can cause life-threatening anaphylaxis.

A recall notice has been published by the Food Standards Agency. It reads: “If you have bought the above product and have an allergy to peanuts, do not eat it. Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.

“For further information, please contact Fortune Foods customer service team at [email protected].”

A separate notice by Fortune Foods, which manufactures the product, said: “We deeply regret this incident and are taking immediate steps to strengthen our labelling and quality control procedures to prevent a recurrence.
