The Met Office has predicted London will experience its hottest June day on record as temperatures soar to 36C. UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued another amber heat-health alert for London and other parts of southern England ahead of a warm spell from Friday, June 28 to Tuesday, July 1.

Experts say the heatwave will peak on Monday, June 30 – soaring above the UK temperature record for June which currently sits at 35.6C. This was recorded in Southampton in 1976.

Met Office meteorologist Craig Snell said: “From Friday onwards we’re starting to once again see the heat build across England and Wales. Scotland and Northern Ireland are going to have a slightly different few days, some parts of western Scotland could see some heavy rain, especially on Friday, and we could potentially see some further rain towards the end of the weekend.

“On Friday, we’re likely to see temperatures potentially peak around 27C or 28C in central and southern parts of England, it’s going to feel quite humid.” He adds that temperatures will reach 30C and 31C on Saturday and Sunday, before surging to a potentially record level on Monday

Western Europe is currently being gripped by an extreme heatwave with 35C expected today in Madrid, 34C in Lisbon and 33C in Marseille. Sunday, June 29 and Monday, June 30 will also see Londoners experience ‘tropical nights’ as temperatures don’t drop below 20C.
