Paramedics treated the 32-year-old for multiple injuries but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Whilst formal identification is yet to be completed, his family is now being supported by specialist officers, according to a statement issued by the Metropolitan Police.

Two men – aged 35 and 33 – were arrested on suspicion of murder, with the former, now named as Abdul Kareem Fawaz of Bondway, Vauxhall, charged yesterday (July 6). He was also charged with possession of a knife, and will appear at Croydon Magistrates’ Court later today. The other arrested man has been released on bail pending further enquires.

Detective Inspector Aytac Necati who is leading the investigation said: “Sadly, a man has lost his life in the most horrendous of circumstances. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.

“We understand the effect this will have on the local community, and will ensure that officers are deployed on reassurance patrols to respond to any questions or concerns.”
