A murder investigation is underway following the fatal stabbing of a 26-year-old man in Chingford last night (July 6). The victim, who has not yet been named, was knifed on Chingford Mount Road in front of horrified onlookers just before 9.10pm yesterday.
Pictures taken at the scene this afternoon show a blue police tent opposite The Kings Ford, a pub owned by Wetherspoons. Photographers are working in the side alleys, with forensics teams gathering evidence along the busy street.
Paramedics and a car from London’s Air Ambulance were called to the scene after members of the public alerted police officers on patrol to the stabbing. The young man was later declared dead on the roadside.
His family is aware and being supported by specialist officers from the Metropolitan Police. The force has now launched a murder investigation and is appealing for information that could lead to an arrest.
At this stage, the knifeman is still at large. Chingford Mount Road remains closed between Hall Lane and Albert Avenue and a cordon will be in place “for some time”.
Chief Superintendent Dan Card, who leads policing in the local area, said: “We are deeply saddened by the events that took place last night and our thoughts remain with the man’s family at this hugely difficult time. Detectives are working hard to establish the circumstances of what happened yesterday evening.
“We understand the impact this incident will have on the local community and officers are being deployed on reassurance patrols to help answer any questions or concerns.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact 101, stating CAD7174/6July. Anonymous reports can also be made to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
