There’s another heatwave on the way, which is a particular problem in the UK – seeing as the country is built, more or less, to preserve heat. Doubtless, parents will be worrying about how to keep their little ones safe.
It’s a particular worry for those with babies. However there are a few key ways to keep tots safe and cool, according to The British Red Cross.
One of the safest ways to do this – obviously – is by keeping them in a cool place and leaving them to rest. This is because when people lose too many fluids and salts via sweating, heat exhaustion kicks in, and avoiding intense temperatures helps swerve this.
If your baby is six months old or less it may require feeding more than usual – be it via the breast or the bottle – however they won’t need to be fed water.
And take extra care to keep well hydrated yourself if you’re breastfeeding.Â
Babies under about six months old may want to feed more regularly, and this is perfectly normal, whether at breast or bottle, but they don’t need to be given water.
If your child is fed via formula, and this is very important, don’t add any more water. Stick to the manufacturers’ instructions on the packaging.
However if your kid is six months or older it can be given a small amount of water which has been boiled and cooled, but the charity clarifies this should not be instead of milk.
