Four dead in Southend Airport plane crash

Four people died in the plane crash at London Southend Airport on Sunday, the PA news agency understands. The crash, which happened shortly before 4pm, involved “one 12-metre plane”, Essex Police said.

Images posted on social media showed a plume of fire and black smoke coming from the crash site, while witnesses described seeing a “fireball”.

Zeusch Aviation, based at Lelystad Airport in the Netherlands, confirmed its SUZ1 flight had been “involved in an accident” at the airport.

An investigation has been launched into the plane crash at London Southend Airport on Sunday.

An Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) spokeswoman previously said: “The AAIB has started an investigation into an accident involving an aircraft near Southend Airport which occurred yesterday afternoon.

“A multi-disciplinary team including inspectors with expertise in aircraft operations, human factors, engineering and recorded data arrived at the accident site yesterday afternoon. Inquiries are ongoing today.”

Essex Police added: “Our officers are working with all emergency services for a second day at Southend Airport. We are sure everyone understands this will be an incredibly complex and sensitive situation, so please bear with us while we carry out this investigation.”
