What would be your reaction if you received a cryptic, somewhat ominous note from a neighbour? This was the predicament faced by one woman who was left perplexed by an “unsettling” three-word message, wondering why the neighbour’s ex was bothering with her at all.

The baffled woman took to Reddit to share her “strange” experience. She explained that her next-door neighbours had recently split up and, for some inexplicable reason, the ex-girlfriend had started targeting her house. She revealed that the woman has been loitering around the neighbourhood since the break-up, despite the fact that they don’t know each other beyond witnessing a few arguments on the street that they’d had.

Things quickly escalated into the realm of the bizarre. “A few weeks ago, I found a crumpled fast food bag on my porch. I didn’t think much of it at first-figured someone littered,” she posted.

However, after the third instance, she began to suspect that someone was deliberately leaving the rubbish. “Sometimes it’s cups, sometimes cigarette butts left neatly by the door,” she added.

She deduced that it was her neighbour’s ex who was responsible for the littering, but was puzzled as to why she was being targeted.

She shared: “The creepiest part is she left this weird note last night. Just a ripped piece of paper that said ‘I see you’. No idea what it’s supposed to mean. I’m not involved with her ex, we don’t even talk beyond polite waves.

“My neighbour says she’s been spiralling since they broke up and that he’s tried to keep her away, but she just drifts around the block anyway.

“I’m honestly not sure what to do. I hate feeling like I’m being watched every time I go outside. I’m considering installing a camera or motion light just so I don’t feel so on edge at night”.

The individual admitted that the entire predicament was “stressing” her out, sharing her need to vent and seek guidance on what steps to take next.

In response, someone in the comments section advised: “Sounds like she’s using your porch in the middle of the night to keep an eye on him”.

Another observed: “I think she’s [lurking] there to watch the neighbour/her ex. But the note was for the original poster, because she probably sees her as the ‘threat’ that keeps him away.

“Either way, if she can afford a camera or leave something on charge and set to record while she sleeps/is out, so she can catch this weirdo and maybe give the footage to the neighbour so he can take it to the police”.

A man commented: “Get cameras and locks on all doors. Make sure you can’t get into windows. Sadly, this might escalate, even though you are a completely innocent bystander. You might want to call the police on the non-emergency line, just to start a dialogue.”

Another person wrote: “She’s lost her mind and thinks you’re seeing the neighbour. If she’s getting delusional, you need a camera”.

A woman shared her own experience, saying: “This happened with my neighbour, his wife stalked the neighbourhood. Just talking with him set her off. It actually came down to physical confrontations. Get cameras and avoid all contact with both of them”.

The government website recommends contacting the police if your neighbour exhibits violent, threatening or abusive behaviour, is harassing you, or breaking the law in any other way, or if you suspect this could escalate into something more serious.
