London is braced for horror weather as the Met Office forecasts thunderstorms to batter the capital. The UK’s national forecaster says the yellow warning will begin at 9pm tonight (Friday, July 18) and run until 11am tomorrow (Saturday, July 19), having turned into an amber warning at 4am.
It has come with warnings that some communities may be isolated if roads flood as a result of the torrential rain. If the rain’s really heavy, businesses and homes may be damaged from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail, or strong winds.
There is also a risk to public services like transport. It will be a pleasant break for some from the previously hot and humid weather that’s made London feel very muggy in recent days.
But fear not, as we are headed for a return to the warm temperatures we’ve seen in previous weeks in London as we head into August. The Met Office says: “Temperatures will likely continue to be above average overall, with the possibility of very warm or hot spells developing later in the period, especially further south and east.”
