Feeling a bit sluggish after a few days off work? Why not give your brain an Easter-themed workout with this baffling optical illusion. Your challenge is to count how many eggs there are, but apparently only 95% of people can do it

Counting eggs might seem like a simple task, but this challenge isn’t as easy as it seems.

Optical illusions are a brilliant way to improve your focus as it requires your brain and eyes to work together to solve the problem. Attempting them regularly will give your brain a great workout, and if you’re able to solve them with ease it can apparently be a sign of intelligence, or high IQ. So why not see if you can officially call yourself a genius?

As it’s Easter Sunday, why not have a go at this optical illusion featuring a pile of eggs – and it’s trickier than you think. You might think your counting skills are up to scratch, but brain teaser lovers have been left scratching their heads trying to work out how many eggs there actually are – as it’s not obvious at first.

It requires you to think outside the box and consider more than you can actually see in the picture. According to The Sun, 95% of people will fail, so if you manage it you’re in the top 5% of people, boasting high IQ.

If your first answer was 16, you’re unfortunately wrong because you need to take into consideration the eggs you can’t see. Do you give up? We’ll try to help you get there. First, start from the bottom and think how many there would be if this was a 3D picture.

It would be four eggs by four, which means there would be 16 on the bottom alone. In the next row there are three, so by the same thinking it would give you nine. After that, you have two by two, which is four, plus the one on its own at the top. So 16+9+4=1.

Add them all together and you’ve got 30 eggs in total. You have to think of all the eggs you can’t see. Are you up for another challenge? In another Easter-themed brain teaser, you’re challenged to find the egg hiding in this wall paper.

A similar brain teaser has six hidden Easter Eggs in an image, and it’s your job to find them. If you want something completely different, you can try to find the six odd letters within 13 seconds in this tricky brain teaser.
