Half of Britons have considered leaving the UK for better working opportunities abroad, new research suggests.

The research by Prograd asked more than 2,000 people and found that two out of five don’t think the UK is a good place for young people to live. Most people are worried about how expensive life is, and they also talked about houses costing too much, not getting enough pay, and having to pay too much in tax.

One in three people said it’s hard to save money or they believe they could earn more money if they worked in another country. Canada is the top choice for where people would like to go, with the UAE, Spain, and the USA also being popular.

Marco Logiudice, co-founder of Prograd, said: “The UK, once one of the world’s best economies, is fast becoming a more unappealing country for people to build a life for themselves. As the cost of living stays high and inflation is slow to fall, it’s clear that Brits are struggling to keep up financially.”

Looking ahead, he said: “As we move further into 2024, it will be interesting to see how the government continues to retain key workers and help young people thrive financially. If they don’t, it could be a difficult future for the UK as more people move abroad in search of a better life.”
