Police have named and released a photo of the man killed in a shooting in Stoke Newington earlier this week.
Erdal Ozmen, 45, was found with gunshot wounds on Dynevor Road, N16, shortly after midnight on Tuesday, 5 August. Despite the efforts of emergency services, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mr Ozmen, a father-of-one, was described as a “deeply loved by his family”, according to Detective Chief Inspector Dave Whellams, who is leading the investigation.
A post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course, and Mr Ozmen’s family is being supported by specialist officers. No arrests have been made and the motive for the shooting remains unknown. Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
DCI Whellams said: “Were you in the Dynevor Road area late on Monday night into early Tuesday morning? Did you see anyone acting out of the ordinary? Did you hear anything unusual – maybe people shouting, or a loud vehicle? The smallest piece of information could play a significant role in our investigation.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact the incident room on 0208 345 3775 quoting CAD 108/5AUG, or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Four forensic officers in scrubs and masks were at the scene on Tuesday afternoon, alongside several police officers. A Lime bike was lying flat in the cordoned area. The forensic officers used torches to investigate underneath the nine cars parked on the street.
A local man told MyLondon he felt ‘shaken’ after the shooting near Stoke Newington High Street. The man, aged in his 70s, did not wish to be named, and said: “I’ve lived here for over 25 years and I’ve always thought it was the perfect place to live until the last year or so. The number of stabbing and shootings in London is becoming off the scale and it’s finally reached our neck of the woods.
“I’m deeply troubled that this has happened so close to the High Street. One of the pleasures I have in life is taking friends and visitors to bars and cafes here. I don’t know how I can do that in good conscience in the future when there’s violence like this happening.”
Detective Chief Superintendent Brittany Clarke said previously: “Our team of detectives and forensic specialists are working at pace to establish the full circumstances that led to the tragic death of this man.
“We understand this incident will cause concern within the StokeNewington community, however we do believe this to be an isolated incident at this stage of the investigation with no wider risk to the general public.”
It is the sixth fatal shooting in London so far this year.
