From what’s considered “a nightmare” in the kitchen to top tips on getting the most out of your meal, an ex McDonald’s employee shared what he learned from working at the restaurant chain
A former McDonald’s worker has shared the one thing he believes customers should ask for, to improve a particular meal. Jamie Calder, 20, worked at the fast food giant for just over a year.
During his time there, he witnessed a few things that he now believes foodies need to know about when they place an order at the establishment.
For those who are a fan of chicken nuggets or chicken selects, Jamie said one simple request can make them taste even better.
“The seasoning for the burger patties is incredible on nuggets or chicken selects,” he told NeedToKnow.
“If it’s quiet enough not to be an annoying request, I would highly recommend [asking for it].”
What he isn’t a fan of people asking for however is fries without the salt, which comes by default in most locations.
While it may not seem like an issue to request them without salt, Jamie said it can “ruin” the team’s process.
“[We’ll be] in a rhythm of stacking fries and then have to wipe all the salt off the fry station and fry a new portion just for a customer, who is [probably] going to dump two packs of salt on them as soon as you hand them.
“It ruins the flow and slows down the process.”
Jamie also went on to share a top tip on how to order your food through the restaurant’s app.
“And if you order on the app to collect, you can usually save some time as they’ll start preparing your order before you get to the restaurant (as long as you check in when nearby),” he shared.
The student, who attends the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, also shared what certain noises mean from the kitchen.
“The infamous McDonald’s beeping comes from just about every machine in the kitchen,” he added.
“Certain beeps tell you when you get an order, when fries are halfway cooked or fully cooked, for the grills, fryers, drive-through, etc – everything beeps and it’s a nightmare.
Furthermore, Jamie shared which customers he believes are the worst, from his experience.
“The worst customers are the school-age kids who cause havoc in the dining area,” he claimed.
“Spraying water guns at customers and tossing tubs of sauce everywhere.
“The worst [experience I’ve had] was when someone blocked the bathroom sink with a plastic bag and flooded the bathroom.”
Jamie’s insight comes after another McDonald’s employee revealed three things about the restaurant’s drive-thru process.
TikTok user @charlton.a says ordering at the drive-thru is not as private as believed.
According to him, those working in that area can “hear everything” customers are saying “even when our mic is off”.
He went on to say that cameras also take “mugshot photos” of those ordering food, so that they know which order belongs to who.
What’s more is, the McDonald’s worker claimed customers can order a recipe book, though another employee said they didn’t have these at a separate store.
