Those of you struggling with the heat at the moment might be in for a bit of a shock – this ain’t a heatwave.
There is, however, one on its way. Next week will see the mercury rise to the high 20s and early 30s, according to a new Met Office forecast.
From Monday, temperatures will be above 28C for three or more days, officially meeting London’s criteria for a heatwave. The standards are different across the country for the obvious reason that a certain temperature means a lot more in the Scottish Highlands than it does in England’s South East.
So it follows that temperatures could be below 28C in different parts of the country and it could still be considered a heatwave there as well.
The forecast currently only goes as far as Thursday (August 14), but the heatwave could continue beyond that. Wednesday (August 13) looks to be the high point, with 30C heat.
BBC Weather’s forecast looks further ahead, but it seems it will dip to a respectable 27C on Friday (August 15). Following that, it’s a steady decline, including a few bouts of rain.
