A couple who devised a matchmaking scheme for their single wedding guests have been praised for the ‘genius’ idea. As seen in a video shared by TikTok user @ivy.eventideas, a bride and groom reportedly created a ‘singles newspaper’ for their friends.

Those included were given a short paragraph to accompany their photo, creating a profile similar to one you’d see on a dating app. The guests could also share photos with each other on the night — ideal for anyone hoping to meet someone.

The idea proved very popular, and the video received over 50,000 likes. Praising the idea, @ivy.eventideas wrote: “Ok but this idea?? GENIUS. A singles newspaper at the wedding… with pics of all the single guests + a QR code to upload their best pictures of the night (and maybe meet someone). Honestly obsessed.”

Social media users were just as impressed by the tip, with many commenters revealing they would love to get involved with a similar scheme. One fan replied: “This is cute. And so much less humiliating than your friends shouting at you “Go on! Go on! Go to the front” when the bride throws the bouquet.”

A second viewer added: “As a Muslim who’s been looking to meet someone for the longest time this is genius! Takes away the guesswork out of guessing If someone’s single or not.”

A third response said: “Now this is the wedding we want to go to.” A fourth fan agreed: “This is the idea I want my friend to make.” Someone else praised: “This is a great idea!! Genius!!!”

A different commenter thought: “Genius. Should become a tradition,” while another response read: “I want to watch a movie with this storyline!!! Love it.” Sharing a similar approach, a viewer revealed: “My best friend made the single people sit together.”

Not everyone was so impressed, though. A viewer said: “That’s one way to make me not go to a wedding. I really don’t want to be called out like that.”

Someone agreed: “As a single of 5 years can I just say: No, leave me alone. Don’t make a singles table, don’t do some odd thing to make us awkward. Just let me sit with my friends and celebrate YOUR day.”

Others liked the idea but said it wouldn’t work for their weddings. For example, a response said: “That is so fun! we would have like 3 people on that list so I wont bother though.” Someone added: “Funny but we had 5 singles and half of them are cousins.”

On the flip side, viewers shared wedding romance stories. A commenter wrote: “My husband’s best man and my bridesmaid met at our wedding and have been married 20+ yrs.” Another shared: “I met my fiancé at his twin brothers wedding (non identical) – my co-worker was the bride. I’m saving this idea. This is crazy cute.”
