An expert has claimed that Meghan Markle holds the key when it comes to a potential reconciliation between Prince William and Prince Harry, following reports that an olive branch has been extended
Prince William and Prince Harry could finally be set to put their feud aside – but it’s claimed Meghan Markle will have the ‘final say’.
This is according to a royal expert, who believes the two princes could finally put ‘one of the worst public royal rifts ever’ to rest, but only if Meghan is onboard. William and Harry have not been close in recent times, with Harry reflecting that he and his brother were on ‘different paths’ during his explosive March 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey.
The Duke of Sussex also opened up about a fiery row they allegedly had over Meghan in his bombshell memoir Spare, where he claimed William knocked him to the floor after grabbing his collar and ripping his necklace. Recent developments, however, could put the siblings’ differences into perspective.
The Royal family is currently navigating turbulent times, with King Charles and Princess Kate both receiving treatment for cancer. With Harry expected to return to the UK in May, it’s believed these family illnesses could prove to be the ‘game changer’ that brings the warring brothers back together.
Speaking with The Sun on Monday, April 1, Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams remarked that ‘surprising’ things could well happen as early as ‘next week’, after hinting that a long-awaited reunion could be on the cards. Arguing that the recent health issues could help to mend broken bridges, Mr Fitzwilliams said: “Serious illness is the big changer, despite everything that’s happened, given the seriousness of the situation, anything can happen.
“William is under tremendous pressure, he’s got a father and his wife who are seriously ill, and on top of that there’s royal duties. When you have serious illness it’s a game changer and the situation changes totally. There could be something that surprises us all. You could have all the Sussexes over here, it’s perfectly possible a reunion could happen. Next week, next month, next year, you could get something you never dreamed you’d get.”
As much as Royal watchers may long to see the brothers side by side, it may not be as simple as all that. Although it’s previously been reported that the Prince and Princess of Wales have urged the Sussexes to bring their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, for a UK visit, it’s believed Meghan will be the one to make the final call on this matter.
Mr Fitzwilliams explained: “Meghan has the say. There’s no doubt Harry wishes to convey he is a very devoted family man and will put them above everything else. Just like William.
“If Meghan didn’t want to come she could never be forced to. It would be extremely unlikely Harry would come over with the kids without Meghan. That would send the message there was a division in the marriage. There’s absolutely no chance that would happen.”
This comes after Royal author Tom Quinn recently told the Mirror that William and Kate have tried to fix their strained relationship with Harry and Meghan, offering an olive branch across the pond. Mr Quinn claimed that the Waleses encouraged the Sussexes to bring the whole family over for a reunion – only for Meghan to put her foot down.
Speaking exclusively with us, he claimed: “There is no way Meghan would bring the children to the UK. William and Kate have suggested that Meghan and Harry bring the children and that the two couples and their families try to make up, but the suggestion is not leading anywhere so far.”
Meghan and Harry had intended to bring their children to the UK in September 2022 but decided against this due to safety concerns. In court documents released following the ruling in Prince Harry’s UK security case, it’s been revealed Meghan and Harry’s requests for security had been denied by RAVEC (the Royal and VIP Executive Committee).
It was said that their team then “wrote to say that the proposed security arrangements for the September visit were not lawful”, describing the measures as “inadequate”.
