A holidaymaker has been left stunned after he was given “the world’s smallest armrest” on a £200 Jet2 flight.

Tom Pike was in creases after he settled down in his seat for his two-and-a-half-hour flight and noticed something odd. The 28-year-old, who was perched next to the window, buckled his seatbelt and went to get comfy. But he could not believe his eyes when he realised how small the armrest was.

After bursting into laughter with his friend Isabella Michel, he admitted he had never had one “this small” before. During the flight from Menorca to London Stansted Airport, Tom attempted to use the “1.5-inch” armrest. This comes as the Mirror has published its roundup of the 25 best hand luggage bags currently on offer.

The 28-year-old flipped it down – but it made little to no difference. Fortunately, he and Isabella had a row of three seats to themselves on the flight back. The incident took place on 10 August during a Jet2 flight.

“I have never had one this small before,” Tom, a financial services worker from Hackney, north London. “It was maybe 1.5 inches long. We immediately burst into laughter. I didn’t make a complaint on the flight; luckily, I was able to move to the middle seat. I can think of a lot that beats a Jet2 holiday.”

Jet2 has been making a lot of headlines recently, largely due to the virality of its ads.

The commercials – which push bargain deals to the soundtrack of Jess Glynne’s hit song Hold My Hand – have been running for years. The lady who is enthusiastically telling the audience that ‘nothing beats a Jet2 holiday’ is Zoe Lister, a former regular on Hollyoaks.

She played Zoe Carpenter on the Channel 4 soap from 2006 to 2010, before making a brief return in April 2017.

The ads really gained momentum this summer thanks to a number of spoof remakes of them, including one posted by the White House.

In July, the official Twitter /X account for the White House used the Jet2 voiceover to seemingly mock a group of migrants being deported. The audio, which is currently trending online and generating many memes, features Jess’ song Hold My Hand.

British singer Jess took aim at the White House in response. Sharing a screenshot of the offending tweet, Jess told her Instagram followers: “This post honestly makes me sick. My music is about love, unity, and spreading positivity – never about division or hate.”

Jet2 has been contacted for comment.
