Aldi fans have been left red-faced after spotting a symbol on the packaging of a product in the budget supermarket. While some people think it looks quite rude, there seems to be an innocent explanation
There are certain things on packaging that make you do a double-take – but usually there’s a simple explanation.
One Aldi shopper was puzzled after spotting a strange-looking symbol on a product from the supermarket. Taking to the Aldi UK Shoppers Facebook page, one person shared a picture of the packaging, with the caption: “What’s all this about,” followed by laughing emojis.
Many in the comment section of the social media post were caught off-guard by the symbol, which one person said looked ‘naughty’. Other Aldi fans were in stitches as a person hilariously suggested: “Contains sweaty nuts,” followed by a crying-while laughing emoji.
Another simply said: “Laughing way too much at this,” and another jokingly suggested: “Love egg included?!”
However, other helpful social media users suggested it might be allergen information about the product, saying: “Contains nuts.” Another suggested: “An allergy notice but they have to do it for visual learners too so we can all interpret it.”
However, it turns out to have a rather simple explanation – and it’s nothing rude at all. Some people in the comments section recognised the product as chocolate covered peanuts, which incidentally one person said they ‘love’ and are ‘so addictive’.
Aldi’s Milk Chocolate Peanuts cost 85p – and the packaging is indeed similar to the product spotted by the customer. If you look closely, it does appear the symbol is a peanut covered in chocolate.
However, as the symbol, or sticker, seems to be covering the barcode, it’s not actually clear whether it’s meant to be there or not. The Mirror approached Aldi for comment to confirm which product it is, and whether the symbol is meant to be there, and what it represents.
