Aldi is increasing pay for London employees in an unexpected additional 2025 rise. The supermarket chain had previously revealed in July that it would be increasing the hourly wage for store assistants to £14.33 from September 1, but this has now been increased to £14.35 per hour for staff working in London stores.
The new rates are rising from £14.05 an hour to £14.35 in London, increasing to £14.66 with length of service. Elsewhere in the country Aldi employees pay is going up to £13.02 which is up from £12.75.
It was initially set to go up to £13 but the additional rise follows Lidl’s introduction of a £13 hourly wage for its employees, reports Bristol Live. This Aldi rate increases to £13.95 with length of service.
Over 28,000 Aldi store employees paid by the hour across the UK are set to benefit from a larger than anticipated pay rise, as the supermarket reaffirms its commitment to never be beaten on pay.
This is the second pay increase for Aldi store colleagues this year, reinforcing Aldi’s long-standing position as the highest-paying supermarket in the UK rivalled by Lidl, Asda, Morrisons and more. Aldi is also the only retailer to offer all colleagues paid breaks, which is worth approximately £1,425 a year for the average store colleague.
Giles Hurley, Chief Executive Officer of Aldi UK and Ireland, stated: “Our colleagues are at the heart of our success, and we’re committed to ensuring they are fully rewarded for the outstanding work they do. Today’s higher than planned pay rise is part of our promise to never be beaten on pay.”
